i charge 79.00 plus parts which is usually to adjust the hight of the tap assembly. if i cant do this inside of 1 hour, i need to retire. but to be fair, do you live outside city limits, or are you wanting after hours service or weekend service?? if not i believe the price is to high.

A licensed plumber would charge this much. A handy-man, for a hour and a half work, with parts and plumbing. Labor about 90 to $120.00 parts maybe about $25.00 to $50.00 total $150.00 tops unless there's unknown problems he didn't tell you about.

Straight up and simple u got ripped off.....I am a plumber and have been for 15 yrs and I have NEVER charged anything like that to change out a single disposal......most likely it would be a service call and in my area that is $70....$250 is a rip off no matter where u live......the only thing that might need adjusting is the trap height and that can be easily adjusted by lowering or raising the tailpiece coming from ur disposal waste.....sorry guy but you should have called around to a few different places before letting someone charge u that much....but hey at least you'll know for next time........also always ask how much they charge per hour.....and ask around friends and neighbors too....word of nouth is the best advertising so if someone had a good deal they wioll surely like to tell u if u ask them....also they will tell u if they think they got ripped off tooo....good luck man

Do it yourself--if no---don't whine about the cost---you get what you pay for--BTW--did you check if new one has the same type of fittings? Would you put a VW engine in a ford? Handymen are persons who are NOT a professional at anything.
Hire a professional--and get what he recommends
cost a bit more--but it gets put in right the 1st time!

It really depends on where you live. My husband lives in the DC area, and usually charges around $100-150 for this type of work, even with the "adjustments". Have him breakdown the cost for you. Also, is he self employed or with a company? Some self-employed plumbers charge whatever they want. You should have asked at the hardware store where you bought the disposal to give you an idea of the time and cost involved for installation and upgrade. You could also have called 3 or 4 plumbers/handymen and asked their prices before you got started. Good Luck with the new disposal.

He's pulling your leg. A hour to a hour and half is plenty of time even with a coffee and rest room break. The only adjustment might be the elbow but it's no big deal.

sounds fair to me, but plumbers in different parts of the country charge different amounts. Remember this, it costs money to run a business, with fuel cost @ 3 bucks a gallon, insurance ( truck, workmans comp, general liability, health) advertizing etc. plus paying phone, someone to answer phone, rent or mortgage on office. Plus maybe 5% profit, it cost plumbing co. alot just to stay in business and have well trained people!!!
