How to clear a tub drain w/out calling a plumber?

plumber

My tub drain is clogged. I have tried all of the chemical stuff that is sold in the stores, plus I have poured bleach down the drain every night for a week. No success. Any suggestions? How much is too much if I call a plumber? What does a plumber usually ask for to come and clear one drain?

have you tried plunging it with a toilet type plunger???
we have to do that to ours sometimes when it gets clogged by something that the chemicals won’t “eat”.
    it’s worth a try before you spend the $$$ for a plumber…

    good luck.

The first thing to try is a plunger. Depending on where the clog is, you may find that the plunger simply forces water out the overflow. If that happens, unscrew the overflow cover and put your hand over the overflow hole so that the force of the plunger goes down the drain, not out the overflow.

a typical plumbing call runs about $100.00 to $150.00 just for the service call and about 1 hour of work minus any materials used. try to unclog it by yourself with a snake. you can buy one at the local home improvement store or rent a bigger one at a rent a center. Push the snake from your tub first, there will be a couple of turns you will have to get by, so it may be alittle tough at first. Keep pushing intil it feels like you hit something, turn the snake and keep pushing. If you think you cleared it, pull it out and test it out. If you didnt get it cleared, repeat. If you dont get it cleared on the third try, go outside to the clean out port in your yard, should be between your house and where the main sewer line is. Work back to the house first, then to the main sewer line. After that try it again. If you didnt unclog it, try, try, again,

    good luck
